Prayer Before Holy Mass

Eternal Father,
I unite myself with the intentions and affections of our Lady of Sorrows on Calvary,
and I offer Thee the Sacrifice which Thy beloved Son, Jesus, made of Himself on The Cross
and which He now renews on this holy altar:

To adore Thee and give Thee the honor which is due to Thee,
confessing Thy supreme dominion over all things,
and the absolute dependence of everything upon Thee,
Who art our one and last End.

To thank Thee for countless benefits received.

To appease Thy justice, provoked by so many sins - my own sins and those of the whole world,
and to make satisfaction for them.

To implore Thy grace and mercy for myself, for (names),
for Thy Holy Church, for all afflicted and sorrowing,
for all poor sinners, for all the world, and for the holy souls in Purgatory.

Of all the practices recommended by our holy religion - Morning and Evening Prayers, Prayers before and after Meals, Visits to the Most Holy Sacrament, Rosary, Way of the Cross, etc. - the august Sacrifice of the Mass is the greatest, the most precious, and the most holy, as well as the most conducive to man's salvation.

Holy Mass was instituted by Christ Himself at the last Supper. He commanded His Apostles to do the same that He had done, saying: 'Do this for a Commemoration of Me'.

Assisting at holy Mass you should have the fourfold intention of Adoration, by which we acknowledge our dependence on God as the Ruler over life and death; of Praise and Thanksgiving for the benefits conferred on us; of Reparation for our sins and negligences; of Impetration, to implore of Him the grace necessary for salvation."
